Reunion

In Reunion I perform an act of destabilization with an 8′ tall stack of large wood blocks. The performance is directed by a sound composition inspired by my experiences of instability in families, institutions and societies. Using months of recorded phone calls I created a sonic experience in which for the first time I hear all four voices of my family in the same room. Along they way I engage other institutional, personal and societal experiences of instability and re-stabilization. While experiencing this sound collage I pull blocks of wood out of a ‘jenga’ stack. It reaches a point of near or actual collapse before I start rebuilding a stable form.
